Modbus is a serial communications protocol. In other words, it is a method used for transmitting information between electronic devices over serial lines or Ethernet; for wired as well as wireless networks. It has been the industrial standard since 1979 and has proven to be a highly reliable protocol in the decades since. Modbus is ideal for communication among several devices connected to the same network.
Your benefits: Versatile, simple and reliable communication and easy to implement.
Modbus operates with one master and up to 247 slaves. The slaves supply information to the Modbus master. There are two versions of the Modbus protocol: Modbus RTU and Modbus ASCII is used for serial lines and Modbus TCP is used for Ethernet.
The same protocol can be used regardless of the type of connection, making Modbus highly flexible in the event of upgrades in the hardware structure of a network.
